SPECIAL AVALANCHE ADVISORY
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER
RELAYED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER/BOULDER CO
508 AM MST SAT FEB 16 2019

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER.

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED A SPECIAL
AVALANCHE ADVISORY FOR ALL OF THE COLORADO MOUNTAINS

* TIMING...In effect from 6 AM Saturday, February 16th until 6 AM
Tuesday, February 18th

* WHERE...This special avalanche advisory is for all ten Colorado
Avalanche Information Center backcountry forecast zones

* WHY...A strong storm on Friday night brought 1 to 2 feet of dense
snow with strong winds to many mountain locations. Snow and wind
continues through the weekend. Backcountry travelers can trigger
large and dangerous avalanches in many areas of Colorado.
Avalanches can break in the new storm snow or deeper, entraining
the whole season's snowpack.

* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Backcountry travelers should
consult www.colorado.gov/avalanche for a specific zone avalanche
forecast before heading into the backcountry. All backcountry
travelers should carry appropriate avalanche rescue gear and avoid
avalanche terrain identified to be dangerous in the CAIC avalanche
forecast.
