...Several Rounds of Rain Through Sunday Means a Potential for
Renewed Flooding Over the Weekend and Into Next Week...
Over the past few weeks eastern Kentucky has received several
episodes of rain and as a result the ground is nearly saturated.
This wet soil will cause much of any rainfall through the weekend
to run off into the creeks and rivers.
A stalled out frontal boundary across Kentucky will bring several
rounds of showers, occasionally heavy, to eastern Kentucky
through the weekend. The heaviest rains are expected to fall on
Thursday afternoon and evening as well as another batch for
Saturday into Sunday. There will also be other times of rain
across portions of eastern Kentucky through the weekend. All
together between 1 and 4 inches of rain can be anticipated for
eastern Kentucky through Sunday with the higher amounts likely
seen to the northwest closer to the Bluegrass and Interstate 64
regions. This rainfall is expected to cause several area creeks
and rivers to rise to near bankfull or possibly flood.
There remains considerable uncertainty with the exact rainfall
totals and the path of any waves that will move along the stalled
front and bring the heavier showers to the area. Stay tuned for
further updates on this excessive rainfall potential through the
upcoming weekend. Flash flood watches or warnings may be issued at
a later time.
As always, if flooding is observed or a warning is issued, move
to higher ground immediately. Never attempt to cross a flooded
roadway. Turn around - Don't drown!
