...Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding Likely Through Early
Saturday Evening...

.An advancing warm front will serve as a focus for heavy rainfall
from showers and thunderstorms tonight over much of the area.
Tomorrow, showers and thunderstorms will continue in advance of a
Pacific cold frontal passage in the afternoon and early evening.
Up to 4 more inches of rain will be possible especially along and
just south of the I-40 corridor. Ongoing flooding will likely
continue across a good portion of the Midsouth through tomorrow.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast
Missouri, and West Tennessee, including the following areas,
in East Arkansas, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Mississippi,
Phillips, and St. Francis. In North Mississippi, Alcorn,
Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, DeSoto, Itawamba,
Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss,
Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica,
Union, and Yalobusha. In Southeast Missouri, Pemiscot. In West
Tennessee, Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer,
Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry,
Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton, and

* Through Saturday evening

* An additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall is expected across the
watch area with isolated higher amounts.

* Street flooding will be a hazard for motorists. Low-lying and
poor drainage areas will be at risk for flash flooding, as
well as small streams.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead

* The river rose above flood stage and will continue rising to near

* At 44.0 feet...In Tennessee, the farmer levee that goes south of
Interstate 155 and on through Heloise, Midway, and Chic is topped
at many places. All land east of the farmer levee to the corps
levee is flooded or will flood soon. Elevator just south of the
Interstate 155 bridge is flooding. Most all land in Northwestern
Lauderdale County and and Western Dyer County west of the bluffs is
flooded.

* At 2 PM Friday the stage was 36.7 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring.

* The river rose above flood stage and will continue rising to near
41.0 feet by Tuesday March 5. The river will fall below flood
stage Thursday March 14.
* At 41.0 feet...In Tennessee, stilt house right north of Fullen
Landing is being flooded. Houses at the south end of Outbounds Road
are flooding as is the homestead at the northeast end of Outbounds
Road right on Open Lake. Most of Highway 19 is awash. Most all
homesteads north of Fort Pillow are under water. Island 35 is
essentially all covered. Bottomland south of Richardson's Landing
is under water. In Arkansas, Sans Souci Road is flooding inside the
levee. Terminal elevator at Osceola is flooding.
