Big Black River Near Bentonia affecting Madison and Yazoo Counties

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive or walk through areas where water covers roadway! The
water may be deeper than it appears. Remember...Turn around, don't
drown!

Please note that forecast crests are based upon rainfall that has
occurred along with forecast rainfall for the next 24 hours. River
forecasts in the Tombigbee River Basin have an additional 48 hours of
rainfall added. Rainfall amounts greater than forecast may take the
rivers higher.

* At 8:45 AM Tuesday the stage was 12.1 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage tonight and will
continue to rise to near 20.0 feet Friday morning.
* Flood history...This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.7 feet
on Feb 27 2018.
* Impact...At 19.0 feet...Thousands of acres of agricultural land are
under water.
* Impact...At 17.0 feet...Several thousand acres of agricultural and
lowland become inundated.
* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Lowlands and agricultural land near the
river begin to flood.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage early Thursday
morning and will continue to rise to near 26.0 feet by next Tuesday.
* Flood history...This crest compares to a previous crest of 25.3 feet
on Mar 18 2015.
* Impact...At 25.0 feet...Extensive flooding of agricultural land is
occurring.
* Impact...At 23.5 feet...Agricultural land near the river begins to
flood.
* Impact...At 22.0 feet...Low lying woodland areas along the river
begins to flood.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON CST TODAY
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana and
Mississippi, including the following areas in southeast
Arkansas, Ashley and Chicot. In northeast Louisiana, East
Carroll, Morehouse and West Carroll. In Mississippi, Attala,
Bolivar, Carroll, Choctaw, Clay, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys,
Issaquena, Leflore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Noxubee, Oktibbeha,
Sharkey, Sunflower, Washington, Webster, Winston and Yazoo.

* From noon CST today through Wednesday afternoon

* Rainfall amounts of two to three inches with locally higher
amounts are expected to fall on partially saturated grounds.

* The flooding of roads, low lying areas, and areas with poor
drainage is expected. Water levels on areas rivers and streams
will be rising as well. If encountering flooded roads,
remember to turn around, don't drown and be especially
cautious at night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

morning.
* Impact...At 23.5 feet...Agricultural land near the river begins to
flood.
